Original research

[edit]

Hi. I wanted to explain why I undid an edit you made to The Collection (film). The problem is that you labeled the film a "box office bomb" without a citation to a reliable source. Wikipedia can't perform this kind of analysis itself; we need to cite someone else who has performed the analysis. To do it ourselves is original research, which is forbidden on Wikipedia. Whether a film made money is contentious inside and outside of Hollywood, and this is one reason why we have an article on Hollywood accounting. It's best to leave this kind of analysis to reliable sources. There are also neutrality issues involved in labeling something as a "bomb" versus something like "underperforming", for example. Again, we should let the sources determine the degree to which something failed – if indeed it did fail. Anything to do with accounting in Hollywood films is a minefield, and I'd recommend just sticking to neutral facts, such as reporting how much money the film grossed.
